AI-generated imagery is now everywhere – in media, in marketing and increasingly in daily life. As this imagery becomes more prevalent, there are major debates to be had over the impact of the biases it perpetuates.

Generative AI can only create images based on what is already in the public domain. That means groups who are already underrepresented can be poorly represented by AI too.

For people with disabilities, the problem is particularly worrying. AI models are failing to reflect the reality of everyday life with a disability, instead leaning on a narrow set of stereotypes. That is a problem some are now trying to solve.
