We sit down with BFB Labs’ head of product, Nabeena Mali, to unpack how Lumi Nova offers therapeutic digital intervention to children – and how her process of co‑creation, analog sketching, and a lean tool stack turn therapy into playable progress.

Because November 10th marks the start of Anti‑Bullying Week 2025, with this year’s theme “Power for Good”, we decided to look at a digital tool that quietly gives kids that power in practice and explore the design choices and processes that make it a success.

Lumi Nova, BFB Labs’ child‑led role playing game (RPG), turns exposure therapy into therapeutic play: small steps, clear wins, and boosts from language that lifts young minds. Bullying fuels anxiety and anxiety in turn fuels avoidance. This game breaks the loop by helping kids face the moments bullying amplifies, such as walking into class, speaking up, trying again after a bad day.

There are no dopamine traps, no loot boxes, and no grind for screen time. It is all just evidence‑based progress, with parents as copilots rather than enforcers. If Anti‑Bullying Week is about moving from awareness to action, Lumi Nova shows how power for good can look: resilience built one mission at a time.

But it isn’t just bullying Lumi Nova addresses. There’s a gap between the promise of digital wellness and the reality of families hunting for support that actually helps. Anxiety among young people is up and access to timely care is down.
